Our Response to COVID-19
Congratulations on joining the ranks of 2% of Black Women Physicians. We are extremely excited to hear the great news and accomplishment of ABWP Member, Abena Denise Asafu-Adjei. She says on social media, "After 12 years of medical training:
‣4 years of medical school @umichmedicine
‣1 year during medical school getting my MPH @harvardchansph
‣6 years of urology residency @columbiamed
‣1 year of Andrology fellowship @themensclinicucla
I can FINALLY say I am done with the last major exam of my training, officially becoming a 𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗙𝗜𝗘𝗗 𝗨𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗚𝗜𝗦𝗧 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗗𝗜𝗣𝗟𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗨𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗚𝗬.👏🏽👏🏽 Words can’t describe how surreal I join the ranks of 2% of Black urologists in the country with this designation.
This road was nothing short of 𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗨𝗢𝗨𝗦. I have failed, I have won, and I’ve not always gotten what I wanted at the time but purpose is sometimes never planned. The self doubt, tears, frustration, and imposter syndrome was outmatched by my perseverance, my 𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 parents who never stopped believing in and supporting me (this is as much their honor as it is mine), my siblings, and my 𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗭𝗜𝗡𝗚 support system of family, friends, and mentors. Most important, God and my faith has sustained me throughout and continue to. I am 𝗕𝗘𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗞𝗙𝗨𝗟 and truly basking in this moment of joy that I earned and deserve."
We are proud of you Dr. Denise!
